| About Kato Polyclay | |||
|
Kato Polyclay is the most recently developed general purpose polymer clay
on the market. Donna Kato, working with Van Aken International, oversaw
the development of this new clay. The goal was to create a clay that would
out perform the (then) current best clays on the market, namely Premo!
Sculpey and Eberhard-Faber's Fimo. The result of their development efforts
is a new clay with superior characteristics in almost every way.

|
Kato Polyclay is a firmer clay than Premo! Sculpey, but no where near as firm as Fimo's Classic or original and is only slightly more difficult to condition than Premo! Sculpey. This firmness is what makes Kato Polyclay a superior choice for making Millefiori (complex) canes. Kato Polyclay is also a superior sculpting clay, again due in part to the firmness, but the general resistance to over working that Kato Polyclay exhibits even on warmer days! |

The colors are bright, true and pleasing, color fast (i.e. colors will not change after curing, even after repeated and extended curing), Kato Polyclay has excellent mixing properties and is compatible with other brands of polymer clay such as Sculpey III, Premo! Sculpey & Fimo products. |

| Tony Aquino, formulator of Kato Polyclay, has found in his studies that Kato Polyclay can be cured at temperatures exceeding the 275 degrees recommended on the package instructions. Kato Polyclay may be cured up to 325 degrees F with no loss of color stability. Clay cured at this temperature is more rigid, with no loss of durability and the surface is harder. When clay is cured at 325 F, curing time should be reduced by half. If you have mixed Kato Polyclay with another brand, the clay should be cured at the lower temperature in order to prevent color shift of the other brand of clay. | |||
|
Kato polyclay is our clay of choice for price and performance, we have evaluated many brands of clay and
we believe that Kato Polyclay is, for our purposes, the best polymer clay readily available in
the US. |
